Penguins and parapluies

(see http://japanimaction.blogspot.com/2006/10/penguins-vii-in-total-et-parapluies.html#links to understand the title!)

Here are some Glasgow standard-issue black umbrellas taken yesterday evening only a couple of minutes before Mac posted the entry linked to above. There was something about 5 identical umbrellas (only 4 showing) and the light that meant that I had to try to capture this instant. Earlier in the day, I'd missed a scene with a little girl at the bus in front of mine waving and pulling faces at the driver of my bus. Rather like the racehorse joining the cycle race in Amélie, it was one of those beautiful self-contained moments ...

I love this photo!

Thanks so much for the guest post, the original umbrella and for taking the time to think of all these things, and for everything in general really, including uploading the photos - two of which some random guys has selected as favourites, one of me in the pub in Edinburgh, and one of us in Stirling with me on the cannon and you leaning against the parapets. Tremendous!

A few weeks ago, Alison (my mentor at work - and one of the reasons I'm still there) suggested that I create a 'nice messages' folder in my email to peruse when I'm feeling unappreciated and to remind myself that I am. This one's tagged. Tremendous! (Are we going to have to wave a sad goodbye to the ubiquitous 'brilliant' - or does this represent a broadening of vocabulary?)
