Belated update!

Rather a long silence ... explainable by the following:
  • I spent the last two weeks of January working solidly on my thesis revisions, which were submitted on 2 February! An incalculable quantity of 'thank you' is due to Alison and Ralf without whom this would probably never have happened. Now awaiting notice from the examiners ... [This event probably merited its own blog entry, but two weeks later seems much less momentous than it did at the time!]
  • Having handed in my thesis, I left for two weeks in the Canadian Rockies with Robin. The weather was good for skiing and poor for views ... so we did lots of skiing ... and some relaxing in the hot tub/swimming pool ... and a lot of thinking about how to live in the mountains in a country that has distinct seasons, and what kind of career moves that might entail for me ...
  • I am now 29.
Those are the major events from the last month. Today's events so far include
  • Sleeping from 10pm to 7:30am despite arriving back from Canada yesterday (when is the jet-lag going to hit, and just how terrible will I feel when it does???)
  • Obtaining a UNIX password
  • The cooker man fixing the thermostat so that we don't have to cook everything on Gas Mark 9 (that's like 260 C).
Anyway, I'm now back in Glasgow for a week, then leaving next Wednesday morning for Tokyo to see Mac, and Singapore to see Manu and work on Wikipedia-related research. Getting excited now :-) Especially since I now know we're going skiing in Japan, and that the resort is open until 9pm!!!
