Rebecca Mancy
I am a lecturer in Science and Mathematics Education in the Centre for Science Education, which is part of the Faculty of Education at the University of Glasgow
I am always looking to supervise motivated, independent thinkers who would like to carry out research at Masters or PhD level. For possible areas of interest, click on the link 'My Research' in the menu on the left. If your subject is not listed, please feel free to contact me to discuss it: perhaps I simply haven't thought about it yet!
I am also interested in working with colleagues who are interested in similar themes to my own. Please feel free to contact me!
My research areas include all aspects of learning in the sciences, computing science, mathematics and languages. The approach that I take is sometimes called the 'Learning Sciences', and essentially consists of applying results from cognitive and experimental psychology (especially those concerning the role of consciousness in learning, and explicit / implicit learning) to real-life educational settings (school, university, informal learning situations).
I am also interested in science communication and am currently involved in a project investigating the motivations of authors of Wikipedia articles.
